I've been depressed for something like six-ish years, now? Believe me, I know something's not right.showa58taro wrote:If you can’t cope without drugs then something ain’t right my man. Not looking for judgment (though obviously, I understand it's all for my benefit), but I certainly do appreciate your words.

Every day. Actually taking the time to make a doctor's appointment, and check with my insurance to see if I even can, that's another story.Tiggnutz wrote:You thought of talking to a professional?Jigsaw wrote:I've been depressed for something like six-ish years, now? In all fairness, back in college, I did talk to professionals, and was on anti-depressants. Unfortunately, I don't know if I ever stayed on any long enough to really make much a positive difference.
I really didn't come on here to make this a point of conversation, though.

DSA, the Democrat-helping "leftists" who can't tell the difference between Social Democrats and Democratic socialists?  :twisted:showa58taro wrote:Jiggy, you’ll be pleased to know my sister follows DSA.

Yeah, I'm rather mixed on them. As soon as "leftists" start helping and saying good things about the Democratic Party, I'm out.

Aww. I thought you’d be cool with Democratic Socialists. I see their stuff on my wall now and again. They seem in your wheelhouse. But I guess not anti-Democrat enough for you? Oh well. I think my twitter is very left-leaning these days. Lots of fun stuff every day.Jigsaw wrote:DSA, the Democrat-helping "leftists" who can't tell the difference between Social Democrats and Democratic socialists?  :twisted:showa58taro wrote:Jiggy, you’ll be pleased to know my sister follows DSA.

I think the DSA does a lot of good, but when they combine with the Democrats to do it, in the long-run, I think it's rather dangerous.showa58taro wrote:Aww. Democratic Socialists are fine - as stepping stones. But democratic socialists want to "repair" capitalism and make it work better for the average person. I want to end capitalism. So the DSA is actively working against my own views - they want to "fix" capitalism and keep it going, whereas I want capitalism ended.
You can see the distinction, I'm sure.
That said, there are plenty of strong comrades in DSA, and trying to radicalize them. I wish them luck. Same with my friends in the Democratic Party. It's just not a route I think is ever going to work (despite some strong progressive showings in elections thus far).

Given a lack of likely alternatives I think the fixing approach worked best. Really the problem tends not to be the fixing it tends to be the accountability for it.Jigsaw wrote:I think the DSA does a lot of good, but when they combine with the Democrats to do it, in the long-run, I think it's rather dangerous.showa58taro wrote:Aww. Any success converting a few more of them more leftwards? Or just enjoyable online chat?

Re: August 31st 2018
I don't actively try to convert DSA members, but there's been limited success. Keep in mind, as much as I loved Bernie (during the primary), many of his supporters weren't that well-versed in leftist theory, so trying to pull them into a more educated and well-rounded leftist circle, for some, comes across as a bit much. There's some amusing pictures online depicting that - if I was more tech-savvy, I'd try to find some.showa58taro wrote:Given a lack of likely alternatives I think the fixing approach worked best. Our board isn’t all that great for picture uploads. But still. Amusement ensues.
My favourite thing at the minute was the trump song by Rainbow something or other.
