i think that we need to first approach ideas and issues as a discussion, and not an argument. not a rush to win.

then to work at being less tribal. don't discredit the group because you disagree with an individual of that group, in action or in idea.

and third to not silence the opposing view, but to shine a light on what's wrong with it. discuss that, rather than remove it from view. because that doens't change the view. it just hides it and also makes it more powerful to those who hold that view.


like hitler or nazis. is it really helpful to dismiss it out of hand? like "trump is a nazi". "no, he's not!" or to even remove nazi as a thing that can be discussed publicly or even mentioned as a term. we should, instead, look into what makes a nazi. what brought them to be? rather than just take it as some cartoon term, that exists in a vacuum or came up in a vacuum and can't ever happen again, with a different label and different context. and that should be applied across the board, politically and ideologically.
