I don’t understand how this can keep happening. They’ve never been under more pressure. Everyone has a camera. Police departments are losing funding everywhere. The city of Minneapolis is having discussions about disbanding their police force. How can they keep abusing citizens this way with all of that going on?zombie wrote:looks like not only did he shove the guy, but then they ordered the rest of the cops to keep moving by, even when some very clearlu started to try to help him. don't just follow orders for the sake of it....

I read he was returning one of their riot helmets. So weird. Instantly bleeding out of his ear. Just disgusting. All of these scenes do make you wonder if the answer is to disband, rehire and screen from the start.

At this point the public pressure on them is so immense. If the brutality videos continue day after day, things will only get more challenging for them going forward. Many of us suspected the institution couldn’t contain its own ineptitude, and that seems to be the reality. It will cost them.

It’s not helped by the rhetoric from the White House. They make it sound like the people are an insurrection to be quelled not a peaceful protest.
Also the latest is that the US is now on a list of places not safe for journalists. Not in great company there

Because our president keeps calling them the enemy of the people. But hey. It's not his fault!!!showa58taro wrote:It’s not helped by the rhetoric from the White House. They make it sound like the people are an insurrection to be quelled not a peaceful protest.

Re: Random Political Comments
It is entirely expected that police given military gear and told to fight people do exactly that. The change needs to be massive and rapid. Not gradual and incremental. Which is a bigger challenge.

Amazing how fast things have shifted in the football world of all this. The NFL admitted it was wrong for not supporting their peacefully protesting players. John Elway of all people (big Trump guy) publicly condemning police brutality. This is probably Kaepernick’s best opportunity to find a job, as the reconsideration of his actions begins. Approval ratings of Ali, Carlos and Smith, MLK etc. were extremely low when they protested. Over time, history has been kind to all of them. A lot of people are now going to see how stupid they were to allow conservative media to distract them with “the flag” and “the troops” when it was never about those two things. We’re seeing people come to grips with this in real time. Kaepernick was right and he gave up his career to get people to pay attention.

The best thing they can do now is offer a formal apology to Kaepernick for blackballing him.showa58taro wrote:Great to see the NFL wake up to reality.

Good. Shouldn't be flying the flag anyway. Even if you are fool and thinks it's about your southern heritage, this flag has no place within our military institutions. That flag, to me, represents treason. They lost. Put that shit in museums.

Re: Random Political Comments
a lot of people always make the argument that black americans are 13% of the overall population and 40% of the prison population to indicate how many of them are criminals. but they never answer the questions...
how often are they falsely accused and arrested, and how often are caucasian criminals excused or overlooked?
how many are turned unto criminals only after being incarcerated? or by police harassment within their communities?
also a lot of talk about how police kill caucasians more often than blacks. but never ask what percentage of whites to blacks are needlessly or wantonly killed by police.
would be interesting to actually have a conversation, rather than just throw out random statistics in an obvious trying to force people to believe your side without question or consideration kind of way.

Every year on Facebook around this time, people post that Antifa are going to to try to ruin a Sturgis rally. Then it never happens. Then they say, "They didn't show up because they got scared! Pussies!". People really believe that antifa is a group that has meetings like Klan members lol. People are so divided that they want to believe this stupid shit.

Re: Random Political Comments
A disproportionate number of black people have been in jail for a long time because of minor drug offenses. Back when everyone was doing coke, white users went on to live normal lives and raise families and get good jobs. Entire generations of black men were locked up for doing essentially the same things.
America needs to reckon with how badly it has consistently fucked over the black community. And probably more than half of this country doesn’t even want to have those conversations because they’re by nature uncomfortable and they think their empathy means guilt, which is bullshit.

And that’s without diving into another can of worms, which is how the CIA funded the Contras’ operations by buying cocaine and distributing it in cities across the United States.
