Re: Recently Watched Movies
Sound of Metal ......... A
I did expect more involvement of the Metal music scene, cause the trailers sure made it seem like that to me, but that aside, it was a pretty damn good moving drama about a drummer dealing with sudden hearing loss. Great performances, I felt the weight in the bad decisions being made, and still felt the empathy of the realization of the bad decision. Also, I thought it was pretty creative not having captions for the first half of the film, because it really put me in Rueben's shoes. Not something I see myself watching again any time soon though. In a full year, i'd raise eyebrows at this getting nominated for Best Picture ... but 2020 was pretty dry. This probably has the Sound category on lockdown though.

Hell Trip. Hell to sit through. A group of friends(this is questionable, as some don't seem to know each other at the start, it's confusing) go on a safari vacation, then they die. I think the whole budget went into the really shitty sfx. The acting was atrocious. I think someone that has heard english, but doesn't understand it, wrote the script. I don't think anyone involved knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, it's not the worst I've seen, but it should be avoided.

Godzilla Vs. Kong ......... B+
That was a fun fuck'n time. Still silly? Yep, but at this point I think they got a rhythm where it doesn't matter. We got clear big-monster slugfests without humans awkwardly interfering with the scenes (like the scene I call the "Orgazmo" shot in King of the Monsters, where we're about to get a money shot but we are suddenly blocked). I think this is probably the best of the 4 Legendary Films Godzilla films, and if this is the last they make, they went out pretty strong.

I tried to watch Godzilla and Kong but fell asleep early on. A big ape and lizard did some stuff. And then stuff.

The Lumberjack Man. Horror comedy about a killer at a christian camp that's heavy on the comedy. Several of the women in the film are porn stars, so there's quite a bit of nudity. I really don't know what to say about it, 'cause it will ruin it, but it was a fun film. Definitely worth checking out if you want some silly shit to watch.

Nomadland .............. A
Liked it more than Sound of Metal, but I still don't have that gush factor over it. It went by surprisingly quick, Frances is again amazing, but I don't think she tops her Three Billboards performance. Was surprised at the gorgeous cinematography, they definitely took advantage of landscapes. Glad it didn't end like Into the Wild, if it did I'd probably have dropped a whole lettergrade.

Have you guys seen The Final Girls?
Just checking it now but it seems like an incredible premise.

Very much enjoyed. 5/5 for entertainment and a good dissection some of the troopers in the genre.
Would definitely recommend.

Mortal Kombat. Pretty good. Not thrilled with how they handled Scorpion(good story, lack of screen time), or that the main character is just some guy they made for the film, but it's still good.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
So this Cole is just a fuck'n nobody? Aagh! I was hoping he'd become an actual character and they were hiding it or something. Like he'd be Sub-Zero's younger brother who becomes good Sub Zero (while evil sub zero becomes Noob Saibot). That's a bummer to hear, but oh well.

I mean, he's a distant relative of Scorpion, but yeah, not a character from any MK game. His abilities are kinda meh, too.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:So this Cole is just a fuck'n nobody? Aagh! See, problem with people today. Its a known franchise with a metric shit ton of cool characters. This is what fans want to see, why the fuck would you create a new lame ass one to center around? Strictly from a business stand point, how does that get green lit.Slaughterhouserock wrote:I mean, he's a distant relative of Scorpion, but yeah, not a character from any MK game. Re: Recently Watched Movies
I've read that it was to help those who have never played the games understand what was going on by having an "outsider" character that doesn't know what's going on asking questions. Basically, the script-writers suck at explaining plot and needed someone to unload exposition on.Reign in Blood wrote:See, problem with people today. Not too far in, I'm missing Christopher Lambert something fierce. And OG Shang (brilliant). And Veronica Vaughn. This new rag tag crew just ain't doing Jax. :ugeek:
