I view the first Halloween as completely independent of everything that comes later. Even with something like TCM 2 that totally subverts TCM, that’s a bold and exciting creative choice. The Myers sequels do nothing remotely as interesting.

the original halloween is leagues better than the myers sequels/remakes. i'm not sure that other slasher sequels didn't also fell short of their original film though.

Well of course some fell short but he did say watered down, in which I think Myers lost popularity over time unlike some of his counterparts, especially from his grand debut. Jason went onto be indestructible and Freddy got funny but their popularity soared in the zeitgeist. Whereas Michael was becoming more and more irrelevant and weak sauce.

i wouldn't mind seeing more final boys being panicked and fighting to survive. it can be done effectively.

The audience will always be less sympathetic or scared for a male survivor at the end.

It’s fine to fall short. Most good sequels do. Just be interesting. Have a reason to exist.

I know 4 and 5 have their fans but to me those are the most pointless entries in the series.
