One improvement on the first half of It that Chapter Two does better, IMO, is the cinematography is noticeably better. There's better contrast, the dark scenes don't stay lost in muddy midtones.

Jigoku has been remade twice. The Inferno (1979) and Japanese Hell (1999), so maybe one of the other's will be more suitable to your liking.

Interesting. I heard about the late 70's movie, but not the 1990's one. I see The Inferno is listed as over two hours, so I doubt that would help, but a late 90's slice of Japanese horror could be fun.
