I don't currently, as I was unemployed for three years and just got out of debt a couple months ago. I did take a dip into the meme stocks to make some quick cash during my unemployment, which helped delay my inevitable decline.

"describe them in 1 word" that concept didn't last long... he was strangely civil about aoc. he did call her fake at the start, but the rest of it felt strange coming from him. and who are the nelk boys? is that some kind of "manosphere" duo or what?

I think it feels strange because people are not used to seeing him in social situations like that or rallies, etc... He's generally a candid guy when he's not putting on a front for the media. He's right about AOC. She's pretty fake, but has a lot of star power among the lefties and is using their base for her personal political gain.

i don't know enough about aoc. she's a communist and she's burning cities down. blah blah. i guess i should read into her, but she doesn't seem to have a whole lot of influence in the country broadly, aside from being a useful boogeyman figure whether individually or as a part of the so-called "squad". do you think that she's worth reading into?

i don't see any super huge red flags on a skim through of the policies she's pushing for. i do understand why the right will never stop hating her though. ending reliance on fossil fuel, abolishing iCE. "workers own the means of production" etc

and the "burn down cities" criticism was apparently about ilhan omar more than aoc, my mistake. i guess it never does hurt to do a read up even if i never took that so seriously to begin with.

though laz did seem to hate her rhetoric generally. so i'd like to know what that's about.

I heard about the Adin Ross stream. The guy's a douchebag. His entire audience was kids on twitch, then he moved over to kick and streamed porn...to his audience of kids. He's done other bullshit, too, but fuck that guy. A guy I do follow watched the stream, so I'll get an idea of what went on there, otherwise I refuse to give that guy views or otherwise spread anything he does. Irrelevant to the conversation, just wanted you guys to know who the interviewer was.

Pretty sure they named themselves "The Squad". I think AOC is just dumb and is more of an internet celebrity than serious politician. Same as the rest of the "Squad". They have a bunch of those on the other side too Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene come to mind.

maybe so. i have seen a little more of greene in particular. maybe i'm telling on my slant a little bit. :P "internet celebrity" boosts recognition. recognition means potentially more votes and more interest behind the scenes toward you as a politician. so i get why it's done. but don't go overboard about it. :P

since we're still all in a trump related thread and i tend to jump all over him... i feel like i should step a little bit back. he is definitely not a hitler figure, in my estimation, as others probably feel like i think. he's probably more akin to rush limbaugh or alex jones but with the status and former power of a president.

the political figures and cheerleaders (as in rightwing/conservative media) around him seem to be set on using him as some kind of david koresh figure to rally around. i'm not convinced that he wants that position but he doesn't really do a lot to undo it or shake free of it, if he even has a way to do that any more at this point.

so i hope he doesn't get the white house again for those reasons. i know it doesn't mean much and no one cares but i want to try to be more evenhanded in regard to him. pay this post no attention, if you don't care. sorry. :P

AOC is pretty much a sell-out, as most of "The Squad" are. Those actually on the left (again, I'm talking communists and socialists, who generally vote outside of this idiotic and dangerous two-party system) consistently call her out for her bullshit. DSA-capitalists still rally around her as though she's the second coming of Bernie, but given Sanders' statements in the last couple of years, that does little to impress people who stand against capitalism.

The thing is, so many people in this country think Democrats are communist.

As socialist, I can tell you that I don't know a single elected Democrat in the country who is actually a socialist, so while I don't doubt non-mainstream "progressive" Democrats support AOC, actual leftists generally don't. I know I wouldn't vote for her if she ended up on some type of presidential ticket.

all of that seems fair. except that i don't think that anyone, or at least anyone with power beyond their vote and trying to appeal to representatives actually believes the dems are communist. it's just another scare tactic to drum up support in their favored candidate at whatever moment.

just curious who are some of the more socialist media figures, if there even are any that fits that?

Oh, I agree that most likely, GOP elected officials don't think Democrats are communists. However, there are some really stupid people in the House, so if there were a handful who thought Democrats were actually advocating for the take-over of private corporations, I wouldn't be surprised. :P

I was more talking about the voters. I live in a conservative location, and I know at least three people who have said, in all seriousness, that "Democrats are communists." How the hell can I even have a conversation with them if their frame-of-reference is so utterly fucked?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "media figure." I don't really base my own personal views around any YouTuber or leftist platform. Also, because of the joys of leftist in-fighting, it's not easy to nail down a great representative.

Because of the nature of media in this country, socialists have little-to-no actual voice. CNN doesn't bother talking to us, and when Fox does, it's always in bad faith. There are some strong voices out there - Sabby Sabs, First Thought, etc. - but it's difficult to say that they'd even classify as media figures.

And before anyone mentions him, Vaush is absolute trash. He's about as leftist as my father's ashes. :P

i just meant anyone with a platform and some kind of political awareness that leans that way. not some huge paid for apparatus or anything necessary, but that's fair.

those voters get their information from sources who have an agenda. more than likely either foxnews or tucker carlson (now that he's no longer a fox-er) unless they're internet savvy a little bit then it's probably crowder or the dailywire. or even just twiter.... ugh. :P

hopefully you can find something like a socialist echo chamber eventually, like the rest of us have, to nestle into and shut out everyone else's points of view. :P
