I went to bed thinking about The Substance and woke up thinking about The Substance. Disgusting and beautiful all at once. Cronenberg and Kubrick-ish but also unique. A+

It's in my theater another week. I think it got extended because I'm pretty sure I checked a couple days ago and the last day was this Thursday. It's fairly long and I won't double dip for the challenge, but I'm glad I got to see it on the big screen and would definitely prefer to own it so I'm hoping it gets a nice blu ray release.

In the modern day you're seeing tons of older celebrities doing lip injections and botox to try to stay young and instead of aging gracefully and accepting that they look like a 50 year old person they end up looking like a 20 year old lizard after the modifications.

The "beauty standard" thing is generally regarding body size and shape rather than age and the movie itself directly deals with Demi Moore's character having to accept that she is no longer the young, sexy agile athlete she once was and it's time to move on to something new. The message I got from it was the acceptance and respecting of yourself aging rather than what your body shape is. It's pretty direct in the movie.

But you could be right in that aging gracefully is the movie's way of taking down a beauty standard. When I hear "beauty standard" I automatically jump to the general argument which is "super models being very thin/sexy is an absurd beauty standard". Demi Moore is still thin and sexy in this movie, but she is older.

yeah, i've noticed it with courteney cox, meg ryan and others too. aging gracefully should be the standard. let people just be people. don't chase youth, either in your own body or in others as you grow older.

Has some high promise to it from what I've read from people who've seen it. So it's gonna get put in at some point in this challenge.

Got a blind buy from me when I encountered a random youtube video breaking down the scariest scene in the movie. I barely got into the video before I decided to shut it off and just buy the movie. It was really intriguing and I forgot most of what I saw.

Salem's Lot
I saw it about ten years ago or so and I think it was the only time I watched it, but I remember being pretty blown away at how great of a vampire movie it was and I want to see if I feel the same.

And also Aliens are long overdue for a rewatch. It's been probably more than ten years since I've seen both and while I enjoyed Alien to an extent, even with multiple viewings it just didn't hold up to the hype, and I preferred Aliens every time. But it's been so long that they're both in need of a reevaluation.

yeah, aliens makes my top 10 horror flicks. i prefer it to the original. for awhile i didn't really care for alien but i've come to find that both are cool stuff.

i think you should watch as many of them for the challenge as you can. and i probably need to give salem's lot another chance myself.
