to those that don't like recent film, what is it missing from horror in the 2010s, compared to the 2000s? (cause you guys didn't seem to feel that way at that time)

New things suck. 1920's FTW come at me brahhhh!!

I'm too tired to tackle the topic seriously - if I remember come November, I might throw my two cents in. :P
For my thoughts on the horror films I've seen, please look here: https://jigsawshorrorcorner.wordpress.com/

I wouldn't single out horror. I'm just not finding much of the recent stuff making an impact, finding it's way into my favorites or must have piles. Maybe it's just not my era, it will be known as being oversaturated with Superhero flicks and those have never been a primary source of zeal for me. Now we're living Disney reboots and shit, meh, just not getting excited.

that's fair. i'm not into silent films and struggle with westerns as a subgenre. hopefully you can find your way around the types of films that you aren't big on.

i do feel like the late 2000s and early 2010s were a little bit lacking horror-wise, but it seems to be picking up again now. but that's just my view of the genre lately.

to me, the soska sisters and ari aster look to have the most promise of the directors to emerge in the 2010s. (or just before)

Nothing since American Mary looks worth a damn from the Soska sisters though. The only thing I've seen since was their bit in ABC's of Death 2, which was forgettable at best.

they've done a couple of other films, and have the rabid remake coming up. the abc's of horror was crap though.

Rabid wasn't anything all that special. It's The Devil Wears Prada crossed with Contracted. The idea for Rabid is there, but it kinda sucks, but the last 15 minutes were decent when they decide to turn the film into The Brood.

David Robert Mitchell has a lot of potential, but his follow up to It Follows was apparently just a crime drama.

So yeah, no one with consistency is really doing much off the top of my head. Ari's got two in a row, but neither are really fodder for hardcore horror fiends.
