I'm looking for an older movie that I saw as a kid, so sorry for the lack of details. Here's what I remember:
A group of people go to an isolated town (island, maybe) and start getting killed off one by one. The only one I really remember is a guy gets in a car and it drives off a sea cliff.
Towards the end, there is a scene in an old church that the hero (or heroine) takes shelter in and the townsfolk reach their hands through the walls. They couldn't come in due to their cult or devil worship.

Is this what happens in the remake? I don't remember much of that chunk of crap.
