Marijuana: Legal or Not?
I just came across this article and thought I'd share it. I'd like to get everyone's opinion on the debate over legalization of Marijuana.
Do you support it or not? and why?
Here's the link to the article. The author is arguing that smoking weed is causes Schizophrenia. I'm not a medical professional but I don't agree with this. It's not weed, it's the person. Just my opinion.

It's legal here and it's something I dreamed of when I was younger but living with it I'm not sure I can still get behind it. It's not regulated at all. If 20 kids get off a school bus and 10 of them pulled out beers and started chugging people would be outraged. 20 kids get off a bus and 10 light blunts and joints and nobody bats an eye. I see it daily and these ain't high school kids either. Everyone driving is super fucked up the entire 95 highway smells like Chongs beard. It's completely uncontrolled in any way.

Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
should be legal. should be regulated.
Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
I'm of a similar mindset. Back in the day when I was still in the party scene it would have been a dream come true. But now, I'm not really in favor of it. Back home in Texas it's illegal across the board. Now it wasn't uncommon to see some kids ducking behind a building to smoke a joint or whatever but here in Virginia it's everywhere! I see people constantly driving around smoking weed, waitstaff are high at work and nothing is done about it. Just the other day I had an Instacart driver struggle to find my house when it's right off the main highway. At first I thought maybe their GPS was malfunctioning or something but once he arrived he reeked of weed and you could see he was fucked up just by looking at him. So yeah, I am not sure now this was a good idea. I think more regulations and laws should be put in place to punish those who can't use responsibly.Tiggnutz wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 9:35 am It's legal here and it's something I dreamed of when I was younger but living with it I'm not sure I can still get behind it. Legalize it, and train your kids properly. No good reason not to. You guys live in weird fucked up areas, I live in Southern California with family exclusively in Colorado, the two at the forefront and meccas for this shit, and I have not witnessed nor heard 1/10th of what you guys described. After legalizing, the hophead population upped a bit, I mainly saw the increase in my highly paid and successful co-workers/friends.

Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
I do live in a fucked up area where politicians thing letting everyone do what they want without the thought of consequences is the best course. I didn't expect it to turn out this way. That's why Baltimore and everything around it is an unlivable toilet

Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
I don't live in a fucked up area. This is one of the nicest areas in VA. (VA in general is nicer than TX imo)Then again maybe I am biased because of how fucked up and unlivable majority of the Dallas area is, but w/e. I agree with Tigg about the politicians. The Democrats control most of VA and they are not the good ones imo, they are of similar mindset to those he describes and while I support the whole live and let live mentality, letting people just do whatever they want without consequences is an epic fail.
As for Colorado and California, I can only assume they have more regulations in those state regarding legalized weed or they just have a better handle on it altogether. I like Colorado and I'm looking into getting a property there in the future but I would never live in California.

You have to be hard on driving and underage use just like alcohol but it's not treated that way here.

It should be legal everywhere. Lack of regulation is where they’ve dropped the ball.

When were delivery drivers, restaurant workers and kids getting out of school not getting high? It’s news to me that any of that is new. We can add retail workers to the list. As Reign said, the real change when weed became fully legal here is more successful white collar people doing it openly.

Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
The point was is that it's happening more now than before due to lack of regulations as has been stated. People here know there will be no consequences so they don't care.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:14 am When were delivery drivers, restaurant workers and kids getting out of school not getting high? The problem there would be the legality, not the lack of regulations. If it’s legal, people are going to consume more.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:43 amThe point was is that it's happening more now than before due to lack of regulations as has been stated. Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
True. There's no easy fix to this problem but I would agree that CO and CA have handled this much better than VA or MD.Headhunter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:51 amThe problem there would be the legality, not the lack of regulations. But on a side note we won't be staying here (in VA) permanently so It won't be our problem forever. I do hope they get some handle on it just for the sake of everyone else who lives here.

Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
My biggest concern right now is that there is no government oversight of the products being sold. That’s why I buy my stuff directly from a grower.

Never thought I would not want to smell good weed but it does annoy me now. Everything and everywhere smells like skunk balls.

Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
I feel it's just one of the many signs that we're getting older and with age interest and habits change. I have a very different mindset now than I did 25 years ago. If I live another 25 years, I have no doubt that I will have a different mindset than I do today. While I have certainly maintained some interest (love for horror films, history, space exploration i.e.) there are a lot of things I just don't care for like I use too (traveling, going out every Friday, partying, etc.) I'm more of a homebody now than I was event 10 years ago lol.
I haven't smoked weed (or tobacco) in nearly 20 years and have no plans to ever do so again.
I don't drink alcohol anymore either. 14 years sober and counting!

Yeah I've become a crotchety old fucker. I currently just have no urge to be drunk or high anymore maybe that changes down the road. I've enjoyed this sobriety honestly.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 2:37 pmI feel it's just one of the many signs that we're getting older and with age interest and habits change. Re: Marijuana: Legal or Not?
As someone who has to be careful when I smoke weed because I'm in a state where it's not legal, I think weed should be legal everywhere, and I've never once heard a single logical argument as to why it shouldn't be.
