Do you think a conservative in power fired that person for expressing an opinion that is not really that controversial? Or do you think it was likely a liberal?zombie wrote:but liberals don't own that industry. and that isn't a potentially false accusation either. it's more like what we started yesterday talking about, more than where we ended up.Foo wrote:A nurse just got fired for stating a guy running from the police deserved to be shot.zombie wrote:so, it's only happening in hollywood on any sort of large scale? so, wouldn't seem to be that scary, given the scope of the situation as you see it to be. at least not so scary for any of us. i don't know that i agree, but it is what you're saying seemingly.Foo wrote: Because liberals are in control of the industry where those people were shitcanned. we can think "what likely happened" all day. isn't that exactly what you didn't want people to do, just last night?Foo wrote:Do you think a conservative in power fired that person for expressing an opinion that is not really that controversial? now it's even truth? interesting turn of events. a lot of liberals do try to bully people into silence. so there is a good chance it was a liberal. but i'm not going to pretend to know for sure.Foo wrote:By ignoring the truth?zombie wrote:we abandon bias and leading, toward an agenda.Foo wrote:

how is "a bigwig hollywood producer took advantage of the "casting couch" culture in hollywood", not common sense too? speculation is still only speculation, and neither of us should pretend that it is fact or truth, without evidence.

Yes. We see the culture right now and who is doing the constant bullying.zombie wrote:now it's even truth? interesting turn of events. a lot of liberals do try to bully people into silence. so there is a good chance it was a liberal. but i'm not going to pretend to know for sure.Foo wrote:By ignoring the truth?zombie wrote:we abandon bias and leading, toward an agenda.Foo wrote:

Yes, it is common sense. The casting couch is real. It is also something that many of the women took advantage of to get where they are. They prostituted themselves to get jobs, shouldn't they be apologizing to the women who had the morals to refuse, who they took the jobs from? I see a lot of blaming, but not taking responsibility for participating in the culture.
Re: April 2nd 2018
yep. right now, a lot of is extreme liberals, usually online. (even the nurse was fired due to internet fall out)Foo wrote:

agreed. there needs to be serious change. first: children should not be left alone at a party for adults. second: if sexual favors are expected as a part of the casting process or as part of building a career, make it contractual. make it clear up front, what actors are getting into, with a certain project.
Re: April 2nd 2018
I don't think it is as simple as making it a contract. I think you have people flirting because that is the nature of that business. Being charming and sexy, and accessible is what we have deemed to be a "star". Jennifer Lawrence can act, but so can many others. What makes her a star is that she will give you a BJ and do cocaine with you at a party shortly after meeting.zombie wrote:yep. right now, a lot of is extreme liberals, usually online. The movie making process takes months or even years at times. They are free sprited artsy types and they want to be around fun and free spirited people. Imagine you pick someone to spend a year long road trip with. Not knowing the people, are you not likely to pick the one who seems interested in you? The beautiful one who flirts and says you will have a great time together? It is the same thing.
Re: April 2nd 2018
movie making is a business. if you want to treat it like an orgy that also involves acting and directing, then you're gonna have fall out. you're gonna have serious accusations. and that's what happened. i think there needs to be change.Foo wrote:I don't think it is as simple as making it a contract. But it is the people who benefited from the orgy environment who now want it changed as they are being marginalized. This culture has existed during the entire time you have been a fan. The people we are fans of all contributed. Because it may change it fundamentally. I can tell you if I grew up today I would not be as big a fan of horror as I am, because the culture is different.zombie wrote:why wouldn't i like it any more?Foo wrote:

Harvey Weinstein had his hand in a significant number of great movies over the last 20 years. Could that be because the culture is built into them?
Re: April 2nd 2018
i think i would be as big a fan of horror. only that i would be finding more classics as i go, than i did. the older movies are still there to watch. and more being released that i wasn't aware of as well.Foo wrote:Because it may change it fundamentally. the culture is probably built into it, to a degree. still, i think that great movies can be made, without using or abusing people and throwing them away when they lose whatever attracted you to them.

Do you think entertainment has suffered in the PC era?zombie wrote:i think i would be as big a fan of horror. only that i would be finding more classics as i go, than i did. the older movies are still there to watch. and more being released that i wasn't aware of as well.Foo wrote:Because it may change it fundamentally. Re: April 2nd 2018
Speaking of, why does rap music get a PC pass that nothing else gets?
Re: April 2nd 2018
when did the pc era start? horror has gotten better than in the 90s. tv (or streaming) has gotten better than it's ever been, possibly.Foo wrote:

Tough to pinpoint, but I would say in the last decade with it really ramping up in the last couple years. How many public apologies have you seen in the last year?zombie wrote:when did the pc era start? horror has gotten better than in the 90s. tv (or streaming) has gotten better than it's ever been, possibly.Foo wrote:

TV and streaming kinda flip flopped with theaters in terms of being edgy.
