Re: Albums that defined your taste in music?
Albums that shaped your music taste, or most impactful albums of your life?
Re: Albums that defined your taste in music?
i was looking for the 10 that had the most impact on shaping your music taste. but if you want to go with which affected your life most, that's cool too.
Re: Albums that defined your taste in music?
As far as shaping music taste, it's hard to narrow it down to albums. When I was a kid, I listened to a ton of classic rock that my Dad played. Once I hit my teens I was listening to the newest stuff that came out, but never really loved the music. I heard CCR's Who'll Stop The Rain on the radio when I was getting a ride to school and it took me back to the old days of listening to that music. I was like 15 or so when I heard it on the radio again, and that one song really opened up the floodgates. I went back and listened to everything I used to listen to, discovered "new" old songs that I never heard that I loved. I was all over the place, and never really stuck with one album. It was various songs from various artists on various albums.
Born In The U.S.A. is my favorite music album of all time. Possibly the most impactful. I feel like Bruce Springsteen has written the entire story of my life up to this point, and many songs were on that album.

Re: Albums that defined your taste in music?
Right now, this song is kind of the story of my life at the moment, and getting frequent plays. Years back when I learned about the meaning behind the song as Lennon wrote it, it really spoke to me. Might be my favorite Beatles song, and speaks volumes. Mind-boggling he was only about 24 when he wrote it. It also has an impact on me in that none of the band members realized he had truly written the song about himself at the time. He's not outright asking for help, but he needs it.
"I meant it - it's real. The lyric is as good now as it was then. It is no different, and it makes me feel secure to know that I was that aware of myself then. It was just me singing 'Help' and I meant it."
Paul McCartney helped Lennon write the song, but did not realize it was actually Lennon calling for help until years later.

Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Before this album, music was just something that was in the background of movies, not something to be enjoyed for its own merits.
Metallica - Master of Puppets
The album that got me into metal.
Cannibal Corpse - Gallery of Suicide
I had heard death metal before, but this was what got me hooked.
Amon Amarth - Once Sent From the Golden Hall
This shit was like a mix of power metal and death metal and all about vikings. I was all over that.
Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera
Redefined power metal for me.
Ensiferum - Ensiferum
The first folk metal band that really grabbed me. Folk metal is 90% of what I listen to now.
Vehemence - God Was Created
The combination of melodic intros, an on-going plot from track to track, and just brutal death metal made this absolutely amazing.
Faith No More - Angeldust
Amazing band, amazing album.
Manowar - Kings of Metal
The ultimate in cheese metal.
Sykotik Sinfoney - Eargasm
Great music with bizarre musicians. The only band I discovered via a horror film.

I have an extremely eclectic taste when it comes to music, but as for individual albums that mean a lot to me, they'd likely be stuff that most people here hate.
For my thoughts on the horror films I've seen, please look here: https://jigsawshorrorcorner.wordpress.com/

I listened to everything from classical to punk to metal to video game ost's. I just picked the albums that had the biggest effect on music for me. Be it what got me into a genre or something I thought was revolutionary(to me, anyway). Just pick some shit and fuck what anyone else thinks.
