as am i, physical media is awesome and i'll hold onto it as long as i can. i've just tired of everything being a conspiracy is all. and the people crying about conspiracy the loudest (not jason, nor another hmf member) just wanting to be the one doing what they're crying about.Lazerus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:18 pmI'm one of those people. They target movies, get the rights to them and pick and choose which ones get a physical release, ignoring those who want to own it.

Re: July 17th 2024
There's something special IMO about owning a physical copy of a film, especially if it's a limited edition or whatever. The bulk of my horror collection is films from the 80's and early 90's stuff. Some of them came with poster's and shit from Shout Factory which was nice.zombie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:25 pmas am i, physical media is awesome and i'll hold onto it as long as i can. i've just tired of everything being a conspiracy is all. and the people crying about conspiracy the loudest (not jason, nor another hmf member) just wanting to be the one doing what they're crying about.Lazerus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:18 pmI'm one of those people. Re: July 17th 2024
It's becoming the only way to go. I have a big enough issue with streaming, but Disney has also began editing the original cut of films to remove content that they deem offensive. So you're not seeing movies the way they're intended.Lazerus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:18 pmI'm one of those people. I love my horror film collection and will always add more physical media to it. Re: July 17th 2024
The idea is that the film is preserved in the movie you buy and you're not subjected to whatever weird edits the people with the rights decide to make to the film. I always prefer watching it the way the director intended. And those are usually the edits that occur in the bluray/dvd era. Dumb and Dumber might be my favorite comedy and I haven't bought the bluray because they only released the unrated edition, which is usually the best way to watch a movie but the scenes that are added just didn't really work for the movie. Theatrical is the only way to watch Dumb and Dumber.
Did we talk about Possession? The 1981 movie? What did you think of that? I can't remember if we talked about it or not.

Possession would actually prove the point. They could roll out a nice releasese of that for only 5 people to buy it.

Re: July 17th 2024
we must have talked about possession here at some point? it has become one of my favorite 80s horror flicks. top 20-25 of the decade easily. i probably should dig into the features, but i haven't yet.Jason wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 5:15 pmThe idea is that the film is preserved in the movie you buy and you're not subjected to whatever weird edits the people with the rights decide to make to the film. as for director's cut being worse than theatrical, midsommar falls into that category as well. i can't think of many more that do off the top of my head though.

I watched it a couple times and I'm in need of a rewatch it. But I also dug the hell out of it.

Re: July 17th 2024
I guess I've been in a midlife crisis since I was like 15. Lmao.
I started out buying VHS and right as I began building a nice collection, DVD took over and I was devastated for a while but I came around to DVDs pretty quickly.
I have somewhere around 3-4,000 titles on bluray/DVD and lots of TV shows. Most of my physical media buying is upgrading a lot of my older DVDs to more upscale and nicer bluray sets.
