You've got the crazies that like him because they're crazy, you've got the rich that like him because he's gonna make them money, you've got the gullible that believe all his lies, and you've got the angry that just like him because people hate him. The only logical ones are the rich, despite their motivations being immoral. The others didn't use logic or reason to get to where they are, so you can't use logic or reason to explain why he's a piece of shit. It's easier to get someone to believe a lie than it is to get them to admit they are wrong(insert Principal Skinner meme here).

American macho tough guy cowboy bravado shitSlaughterhouserock wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 3:05 am Only semi-related as it's a general question, not specific to Trump: can anyone explain why people would suddenly decide to vote for someone simply because they were shot/shot at? Seems like an idiotic reason to vote for someone, but apparently it's a thing.
2. The idea that “they’re trying to take him out”

The black community also loves that shit. His support from them has skyrocketed for taking a bullet. Media can't really play the "but he's racist" card with a straight face anymore.
Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
this reads a little bit like he can't be racist cause he has black friends (or voters)...

okay. sorry. i hope that whoever gets the presidency gets it because of policy and record, not how loudly they are cheerled for or cried out against. being shot at is a stupid reason to change anyone's mind or get anyone's support.
Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
He displayed immeasurable courage and leadership when he was shot and people took notice. Those are traits that are not only lacking in politics, but in the real world. He showed he won't cower away in the face of adversity. The optics of this is important for the presidency also. If you voted only on political record you might as well write in Mike Pence in every election. Or Ted Cruz. Or a lamp.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 12:42 pmJason wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 12:39 pmNothing. i'd vote a lamp over a trump.
Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
I've experienced a Trump presidency and I've experienced a Biden presidency. I'm guessing a Harris presidency would be a clone of Bidens. I prefer Trumps presidency more even though I think he's an insufferable asshole.
Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
Jason,
I will never vote for Trump, period!
I don't hate him, I don't even dislike him but a large percent of his supporters are psychopaths and/or just Crazy as Slaughter pointed out and I can't stand them. Secondly, I've already seen how a Trump Administration works and it was filled with chaos and drama. I expect a second term would be a repeat. So, No thanks!
I respect you support him and the GOP (from what I've seen) and I know you're a good dude and all.
That being said, I fucking hate the GOP and how insane they have become over the past 6 years or so.
And I don't much like the Dems either with their own craziness.
I'll be sitting this one out.

I don't know what your state ballot looks like, Lazerus, but there's almost always a better, if not a good, option running for president. If you don't like either the Democratic or Republican nominee, and you think both parties have gone off the rails, then it'd be in your benefit to look into either a third party or independent candidate, and see if they're worth voting for.
Personally, I think that's always a better option than sitting out the election entirely (and keep in mind, there are other elections, such as the Senate race - not sure if you care about either Tim Kaine or Hung Cao, but it may be worth looking into).

Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
Voting third party while the electoral college exists is the equivalent to not voting.
Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
I don't necessarily support the GOP. I originally called myself a Conservative but as I've grown to get a better understanding of the political spectrum, I realized I'm more of a right leaning libertarian more than anything else. I think a large portion of both the Democrats and Republicans (in government, not citizens) are uni-partyists who are in it for their own self interest, which I am totally against. I used to think it was only the democrats that were corrupt, but it was actually Trump who basically confirmed my suspicions that the corruption runs deep throughout all of Washington.Lazerus wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 3:23 pm Jason,

I don't think a large percentage of any politician's supporters are psychopaths. People operate differently on social media than they do in the every day world and it easily clouds our judgment of human beings. My best friend died in Afghanistan in 2009. He has a brother that I still try to keep in touch with because I love his family. They are divided politically and my friend's brother despises Trump more than anybody you've ever seen. His social media posts could easily be read as though he's a psychopathic Trump hater, but when he and I are in person and we occasionally speak about politics, it is an unbelievably civil discussion with two people of opposing viewpoints genuinely interested in each other's perception of the political climate. I have family posting on social media that anyone supporting Trump are horrible people and to unfriend them immediately, family or not.
I'm of the opinion that every person with a political opinion has the responsibility to not allow someone's judgment of the political climate dictate how others should be viewed as a person. "Fiery but peaceful disagreements"!

It should be noted that HMF's favorite president, Theodore Roosevelt, nearly successfully, in one election cycle, changed the entire dynamic of the political voting system by running under the Progressive party and getting nearly 30% of the vote. Some will argue that this single-handedly got Wilson elected, which I guess is partially true, but it shows that back in 1912, corruption ran pretty deep and Teddy fought against it. He's the GOAT! And I don't have Trump too far behind, honestly.
Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
if you actually consider trump to be working against evil people, then how can you not get upset or frustrated when talking to people who oppose him or give support to those that you view to be evil? i'm genuinely curious, cause i have problems with political disagreements myself. both here and in person.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:18 pm

Re: Trump Assassination Attempt Discussion
I don't think it's possible to respect an opposing viewpoint if you can't admit to yourself that your own could be wrong. In politics it's common for people to act as though they know everything which I think is what leads to these raging disagreements. We can firmly believe that we're correct and still be civil about those who oppose our views, but we have to admit to ourselves that we only know or hear about what they tell us in our news sources and it's up to us to use our best judgment to decipher the truth. Nobody truly knows. I think that's what makes it easier for me to not allow politics to warp my view of someone. I can very easily be wrong about Trump. My main goal is just the pursuit of truth.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 7:27 pmif you actually consider trump to be working against evil people, then how can you not get upset or frustrated when talking to people who oppose him or give support to those that you view to be evil? i'm genuinely curious, cause i have problems with political disagreements myself. both here and in person.Jason wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:18 pm

you don't tend to talk in a way that seems cautious or uncertain of your position around here. do you when you're talking to friends or family in person, then?Jason wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 7:47 pmI don't think it's possible to respect an opposing viewpoint if you can't admit to yourself that your own could be wrong. I don't know shit. I don't think any of us truly do. However, your judgment of the political climate could be more in line with the truth of it than mine and I have to be able to admit that to myself, if I am going to be at peace with your views. I don't express my views with uncertainty, but I do believe my views to be at least somewhat in line with the truth, so I may express it with more confidence because of that.zombie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 8:21 pmyou don't tend to talk in a way that seems cautious or uncertain of your position around here. do you when you're talking to friends or family in person, then?Jason wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 7:47 pmI don't think it's possible to respect an opposing viewpoint if you can't admit to yourself that your own could be wrong.
