I think it also has to have an element of us not being that interested in each others “key topics”.

You can just admit the change is at least in part a product of the political environment. It's pretty obvious a lot has changed about political discourse in the past two years, both in this country and around the world. Seems more reasonable than insisting this is how you always used to post in this forum, which I don't believe to be the case.

Exactly. I can talk macro business and companies but not running a business or food. I love talking big picture politics, but I find there’s not much appetite for that sort of thing. And we seem to never find any common ground which seems impossible in any other political climate but the US.Foo wrote:I would love to talk about food and business.showa58taro wrote:I think it also has to have an element of us not being that interested in each others “key topics”.

There doesn't even need to be common ground though. Seems like a big leap to go from neither side giving an inch to just trolling. I mean how do you reconcile threads like this or "CNN says hurricane names are sexist" etc. There's no discussion to be had.showa58taro wrote:Exactly. Nah. Not saying you wouldn't troll and be blunt as fuck and make funny straw men, that's always there. I ran off several posters with my political views before Globat killed the old HMF. It is nothing new. In the IMDB days, I was considered the big troll because I was the guy always insisting Kane Hodder sucked while the fan boys were sucking him off while lamenting he was not going to be in FvsJ.Headhunter wrote:You can just admit the change is at least in part a product of the political environment. Lots of life changes. Horror and sports were largely replaced with my business, my fiance, and my aunt. I try to keep up on politics, and people will engage me a little bit on it, versus the other things, so that is what it boils down to.Headhunter wrote:Nah. It was never going to be as horror-centric as it originally was when we were all younger. I've probably been the worst with keeping up with the essence of what this place is supposed to be about. Haven't even participated in a Challenge in years.Foo wrote:Lots of life changes. Horror and sports were largely replaced with my business, my fiance, and my aunt. As a society, we're addicted to arguing about two things: politics and sports. The sports section has thinned out, we all talk less horror and politics is everything wherever you go. This is all kind of beside my point though.

Kane Hodder does suck. I don't see the connection though.
At that time, it was a controversial view and I certainly got a lot of mileage from those conversations.

Re: Untangling Harvey Weinstein
Speaking for myself, I don't post much in the political section anymore because it almost never goes anywhere. I am a feminist, a socialist, a Black Lives Matter ally, a pro-LGBT+ individual, etc., and nothing posted here has changed my mind on any of that. Arguing with Jason, Foo, or any other conservatives just wastes time, as I see it. I have strong, leftist politics almost across the board, but talking about them here just doesn't seem to accomplish anything productive, and I have better venues for political discussion than with a bunch of pro-Trump individuals.
You can call it how you like (I can't "take the heat" for instance), but really, it just seems to be going in circles.
