They loved him in 2011
Introduced around the 5:30 mark, listen to the applause.
Re: They loved him in 2011
they loved him and he loved them. they turned to enemies at the exact point, that he started to run as an outsider and a populist. it is curious.

Unless of course you view a change in views or revelatory information, then not so much. Like Bill Cosby. He was popular once.
Re: They loved him in 2011
i guess i don't view it as revelatory as much as just interesting. the cosby accusations didn't serve to back up how he was presenting himself to be.
Re: They loved him in 2011
Exactly. The person he was then has not changed. Listening to the jokes, it was about his ego, sex life, etc. It wasn't like he was known to be a humble and chaste guy and turned out to be a serial rapist.zombie wrote:i guess i don't view it as revelatory as much as just interesting. the cosby accusations didn't serve to back up how he was presenting himself to be.
Re: They loved him in 2011
agreed. the one thing that did change was he wanted to present as the outsider against the establishment.Foo wrote:Exactly. The person he was then has not changed. But he was even then. Consider by that point he had long been speaking out against Obama and questioning his birthplace, and Trump was most effective politically as a member of the Reform Party.zombie wrote:agreed. the one thing that did change was he wanted to present as the outsider against the establishment.Foo wrote:Exactly. was that prior to 2011, when he was still loved by the establishment media and ate it all up?Foo wrote:But he was even then. Yes. Trump will always accept adoration. In 2000, he wrote:zombie wrote:was that prior to 2011, when he was still loved by the establishment media and ate it all up?Foo wrote:But he was even then. "Let’s face it, if I run it will be a boon to the political cartoonists and late-night talk-show hosts. But I can take it."
I started reading his book. Really, it is the same guy other than his love for Oprah back then. Very tough on crime, drugs, and illegal aliens. Wanting to renegotiate bad trade deals, etc. He was also an advocate for uncoupling healthcare from employment, and offering universal access to insurance, which is something I have long supported. Sadly, I think Obamacare and Democrat lies kill that possibility.
Re: They loved him in 2011
every politician and president has different things they want to accomplish and see done, everyone wants to make their mark and has their own vision. not everyone is held as a pariah, to serve his image. i guess we'll have to wait to see how he's treated and how he treats the establishment after his term is done, then.Foo wrote:Yes. Keep waiting for all those struggling with life and supporting the establishment to understand the establishment is a reason they struggle.

you supported the establishment in populist clothing. *shrug*Foo wrote:Keep waiting for all those struggling with life and supporting the establishment to understand the establishment is a reason they struggle.

By most definitions, I am not struggling, to be honest. All I ask for is equal opportunity and safety.zombie wrote:you supported the establishment in populist clothing. *shrug*Foo wrote:Keep waiting for all those struggling with life and supporting the establishment to understand the establishment is a reason they struggle.

no, i never said you were struggling. supporting the establishment and being a success are not mutually exclusive.Foo wrote:By most definitions, I am not struggling, to be honest. Re: They loved him in 2011
I was telling you why I would lend my support that way. In contrast, economic and social inequality are often highlighted by those advocating for black people, but they keep voting Democrat. It is the political equivalent of throwing a person an anchor while they are struggling to swim.zombie wrote:no, i never said you were struggling. supporting the establishment and being a success are not mutually exclusive.Foo wrote:By most definitions, I am not struggling, to be honest. well, you saw through how trump sold himself and voted him anyways. cool. most people bought into the image he was banking on.Foo wrote:I was telling you why I would lend my support that way.
